ONTARIO BUILDING CODE UPDATE

The Ontario Building code announced last week that the implementation of the NBC 2010 (of NAFS-08) has been delayed and will not come into force until July 1, 2013 for any products.

Jeff Baker has advised that Fenestration Canada received a favourable response to its request to include the NFRC standard as a means of proving compliance with the Supplementary Standard SB-12. FC had also requested the outdated reference to operable and fixed ER number be removed and replaced by the operable values only. Both requests were approved and included in the amendment to SB-12 prior to January 1, 2012. The attached Table 2.1.1.8(1) shows the new format and the inclusion of NFRC. The Ontario CodeNews Issue 201 includes all of this information.

CSA FIT VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED - (FENESTRATION INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN - LEVEL 1 PERSONNEL CERTIFICATION)

Subject Matter Expert Volunteers are needed to participate in a standard setting focus group. This is a one day meeting which will allow CSA to finalize the exam and launch the program. If you, or someone you know is willing to assist with this effort please contact Kelly Adamovich| Manager, Personnel Assessment & Certification | CSA Standards | 877-235-9791 x88012. CSA would like to schedule the meeting in mid-February or early March of this year. Click here to download the form which must be completed to apply for the standard setting panel.

CSA will facilitate a one day in-person panel discussion of 10-12 subject matter experts. The role of the standard setting panel is to determine that point at which a candidate has sufficient knowledge to function in the job role, and make a cut score recommendation.

Subject Matter Expert Volunteers need to meet the following criteria: 1) Supervise installation technicians, or 2) Perform installations with a minimum of 5 years' experience

PUBLIC REVIEW ON PROPOSED CHANGE TO 2010 NATIONAL BUILDING CODE

The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) has invited Fenestration Canada and its members—as stakeholders in the development of the National Model Construction Codes—to take part in the winter 2012 public review of proposed changes to incorporate energy efficiency for housing and small buildings into Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) 2010. Please refer to the announcement attached.

NATIONAL ENERGY CODE REVIEW

The National Energy Code for Houses and Small Buildings is now available for public review. Code change documents are very difficult to read and review. Our Technical Consultant � Jeff Baker has reviewed the complete set of changes and highlighted in yellow the fenestration related modifications. Comments to explain some of the changes have been added to the document that were learned while Jeff Baker attended the code meetings. Please review these code changes and if you have any comments you would like to submit to the Code Centre please go to the web link below that provides the instructions and forms for submitting comments. Comments must be submitted by 4p EST March 2, 2012.

CGSB REVISION OF GLASS AND GLASS RELATED PRODUCT STANDARDS

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB), in March 2011, undertook a review of the CGSB Standards for Glass and Related Products by means of surveys. The results of the Stakeholder survey indicated a number of CGSB Standards are in-use, are relevant and that there is some support by stakeholders to participate in a technical review of the standards. The CGSB operates on a revenue-dependent, cost-recovery basis, and therefore funding support to administer the standards development process to develop a new edition or reaffirmation of the standard is required. Please refer to the attached item for further information.

FENESTRATION CANADA ANNUAL MEETING — Montebello, QC

Members are reminded to mark their calendars for Fenestration Canada's Annual Meeting being held at the Fairmont Chateau Montebello — June 7-9 in Montebello QC.

MISE À JOUR — CODE DU BÂTIMENT DE L'ONTARIO

Il est prévu que la prochaine édition du Code du bâtiment sera publiée au printemps 2012, avec une date de << prise d'effet >> du 1^er juillet 2013.

Jeff Baker nous avise que le Code du bâtiment de l'Ontario a répondu à la demande de Fenestration Canada pour inclure la norme NFRC comme un moyen de prouver la conformité avec la Norme supplémentaire SB-12. L'Association avait aussi demandé que la référence à un numéro fixe et opérable pour ER soit supprimée et remplacée par les valeurs opérables seulement. Les deux demandes ont été approuvés et inclus dans la modification de SB-12 avant du 1er janvier 2012. Veuillez-vous référer au tableau 2.1.1.8(1) ci-joint qui montre le nouveau format et l'inclusion de NFRC. BÉNÉVOLES RECHERCHÉS POUR LA NORME ACNOR (CSA) - (TECHNICIEN EN INSTALLATION DE FENÊTRES (TIF) - PROGRAMME DE CERTIFICATION DE TECHNICIENS NIVEAU 1)

Des bénévoles sont recherchés pour participer à un groupe de discussion sur l'établissement d'un programme de certification de techniciens en installation de fenêtres (TIF). Les participants choisit seront invités à une réunion d'une journée qui permettra à l'ACNOR (CSA) de finaliser l'examen et de lancer le programme. Si vous, ou quelqu'un parmi vos confrères et associés sont prêt à contribuer à cet effort veuillez contacter Kelly Adamovich| Gestionnaire, Personnel évaluation et Certification | Normes CSA | 877-235-9791 x 88012. L'ACNOR vise une réunion pour la mi-février / début mars cette année. Ci-joint, veuillez trouver le formulaire qui doit être remplie pour devenir membre du groupe de discussion.

EXAMEN PUBLIC DES MODIFICATIONS PROPOSÉES AU CODE NATIONAL DU BÂTIMENT DE 2010

La Commission canadienne des codes du bâtiment et de prévention des incendies (CCCBPI) invite Fenestration Canada et ses membres à titre de parties intéressées à l'élaboration des codes modèles nationaux de construction à participer à l'examen public de l'hiver 2012 sur les modifications proposées à la partie 9 du Code national du bâtiment-Canada (CNB) 2010. Veuillez-vous référer au document ci-joint.

RÉVISION DU CODE NATIONAL DE L'ÉNERGIE

Le Code National de l'énergie pour les maisons et petits bâtiments est maintenant disponible pour examen public. Les documents de changement de code sont très difficiles à lire et à revoir. Notre consultant en matières techniques Jeff Baker a fait un survol de l'ensemble complet des changements et a surligné en jaune les modifications reliées aux produits de fenestration.

Certains commentaires ont été ajoutés au document pour expliquer certains changements. Veuillez réviser ces modifications du code et si vous avez des commentaires, que vous désirez soumettre au Centre du Code, veuillez consulter le lien web ci-dessous qui fournit les instructions et les formulaires pour soumettre des commentaires. Tous les commentaires doivent être soumis par p 4 EST le 2 mars 2012.

EXAMEN DES NORMES DE L'ONGC RELATIVES AU VERRE ET PRODUITS CONNEXES

En mars 2011, l'Office des normes générales du Canada (ONGC) a entrepris, par voie de sondage, l'examen de ses normes relatives au verre et produits connexes. Les résultats de ces sondages auprès des parties intéressées ont révélé que certaines normes sont actuellement en usage, qu'elles sont pertinentes et que des intervenants seraient disposés à collaborer à l'examen technique des normes. L'ONGC, organisme autofinancé, fonctionne à recouvrement des coûts. Par conséquent, il a besoin de financement pour administrer le processus menant à l'élaboration d'une nouvelle édition ou d'une confirmation de norme. Veuillez-vous référer à l'item ci-joint.
